Meet The Owner, Scott Green
Scott H. Green, President
Certified Senior Advisor®
I was born, reared, and educated in Shreveport and proudly call it my home. Looking back on my life, some of my most treasured childhood memories include the gifts of time and the values my two grandmothers instilled in me at a young age. My maternal grandmother Hutchinson nurtured my love of art, music, and travel. She taught me the importance of manners and respect for others. “Mimi,” as we called her, was a gifted pianist who played by ear. To this day, I can remember the last time I heard her play our favorite song, Tea for Two. It was the day hospice first came to admit her into their program.
I lost my beloved Mimi after a brave battle with breast cancer while she experienced early Alzheimer’s disease. It was during this difficult time that I watched my mother take on the exhaustive task of becoming the sole caregiver for her mother as she remained in her home. Whether driving her to MD Anderson in Houston, TX for treatment, or making two to three long trips across town daily to check on her, she accepted her responsibility and never complained.
My paternal grandmother Green instilled the love of nature, the outdoors and wildlife. Whether sitting in rocking chairs on “GaGa’s” front porch playing a game of I-Spy, riding the escalator at Woolworth’s in downtown Shreveport or teaching me to bait a hook and fish on Toledo Bend, we always had fun on “our” adventures.
GaGa was fortunate and lived independently in a senior apartment complex until she passed unexpectedly at the age of 94. Until that day, she experienced relatively good heath and was still driving. Unfortunately, she did not have any assistance with her daily living and her quality of life depended on how she felt when she woke up each day.
Today, I find myself in the role that my parents played in their mothers’ lives. I am both honored and pleased to be able to play this important part of their lives ensuring that their thoughts, wishes and personal desires of their aging are realized and honored.
For a number of years, I had the privilege of serving as administrator of North Louisiana’s premier senior independent living facility. Each and every day, I watched many of my residents, some who had no family residing in Shreveport, struggle to maintain their independence. With a little assistance with daily activities or simply reminding them to take their prescribed medication they were able to remain living independently.
Reflecting on my life experiences, including my time at the senior independent living facility, serving as resident caregiver for my parents, and observing the roles my parents played in the lives of their parents, I felt a calling to make the world of home care my profession.
Preferred Care at Home of Northwest Louisiana is committed to providing quality care that safeguards the independence and dignity of our clients. This commitment allows family members to once again be husbands, wives, sons or daughters who can experience peace of mind knowing their loved one is getting the care they need.
I am blessed to be part of a great family, both personally and professionally.
