At the heart of Preferred Care at Home of Ocean and Monmouth County are three women who understand caregiving not just as a profession, but as a calling. Karyn, Amanda, and Annie bring decades of experience, unwavering compassion, and a deeply personal commitment to ensuring seniors receive the dignity, comfort, and expert support they deserve.
As mothers and seasoned care professionals, they recognize the parallels between nurturing children and supporting seniors—both require patience, adaptability, and a keen understanding of individual needs. Karyn’s 30 years in childcare, Amanda’s background in psychology and 15 years managing a childcare center, and Annie’s firsthand experience navigating her father’s end-of-life care inform their agency’s approach: clinically sound, yet deeply personalized.
As a state-licensed Health Care Service Firm, they provide non-medical in-home care that prioritizes safety, independence, and emotional wellbeing. Their trained caregivers assist with:
- Personal care (bathing, dressing, mobility)
- Medication reminders and health monitoring
- Meal preparation tailored to dietary needs
- Housekeeping and errands to maintain a safe home
- Companionship to reduce isolation and encourage engagement
Their dual perspective—professional expertise and lived experience—allows them to anticipate challenges families face, from navigating care transitions to preserving dignity in sensitive situations.
For Karyn, Amanda, and Annie, exceptional care means combining evidence-based practices with genuine human connection.

I am the proud mother of three children and a dedicated professional with nearly 30 years of experience in childcare. Over the years, I have developed a deep passion for helping others, particularly our most vulnerable populations. This passion has now led me to start my own home care business, where I aim to ensure independence and dignity with personalized care for seniors. With a wealth of experience in nurturing and supporting individuals, I am committed to ensuring that each client feels valued, respected, and well cared for in the comfort of their own home. I believe in the power of human connection and am excited to bring my love for people and caregiving to this new chapter.
Annie Howell-Wills
While recovering from an emergency c-section with my oldest daughter at the age of 23, my dad began his journey with end of life care. I was completely lost. I was losing my dad, my newborn daughter was losing her grandfather, and my father was losing his dignity. I am here to ensure that your loved one doesn’t have to lose theirs. Serving new mothers and young children, one of the most vulnerable populations of our community, for the past ten years through transparent, nurturing and educational childcare has led to me to have a passion for serving others. I have always felt a great sense of pride in providing care to others who are vulnerable and in need of a helping hand. There is no greater purpose than helping those who have raised us. My core values consist of Integrity, compassion and honesty.
I pride myself on Radiating positivity, Building trust through transparency, and Living with integrity.
My vision for the future is where the vulnerable people in our community are supported in their independence, recognized in their dignity, and loved unconditionally.
We provide compassionate companionship to those holding onto their independence and wishing to remain at home. Some of these services include meal preparation, housekeeping, medication reminders, guidance with personal care and so much more!
Amanda Gjonbalaj
With 15 years of experience running a childcare center, I have dedicated my career to supporting families with compassion and care. Now, as I transition into the home health care field, I am excited to bring the same level of dedication, detail, and empathy to individuals and their loved ones. With a bachelor’s degree in psychology, I am committed to understanding and addressing the unique needs of each client, ensuring they receive personalized and attentive care.
As a mother of three, I know the importance of providing a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment. In my free time, I cherish watching my children grow and learn, which further fuels my passion for caring for others with kindness and respect.
Driven by a genuine calling to serve, I feel a sense of duty to connect with and provide services to those in need. My goal is to safeguard their independence while offering the necessary support they deserve, giving their loved ones peace of mind knowing they are in capable and empathetic hands.
