Veterans Day: Thank a Veteran Today and Everyday
Published November 11, 2022 by Francesca Robinson, MA in Holiday
Sacrifice. That’s the word that comes to mind when I think of our Veterans and those who serve in our armed forces. The men and women who have served and are serving are extraordinary people whose daily sacrifice goes well beyond what I could ever imagine.
“Sacrifice” is defined by Merriam-Webster as “destruction or surrender of something for the sake of something else” or “something given up or lost”. This definition has been lived out by our veterans and their families. While I have never served in the armed forces, it is my duty as an American to recognize the sacrifice that our military members live out.
Recently, I was talking to a young mom who’s husband had served several tours and missed the birth and much of the first year of life of one of his children. That new father, he understands sacrifice. That young mom, she understands sacrifice. If you know a military family, then you know that this story is not unique. Sacrifice extends beyond those on active duty. Sacrifice extends to the husbands and wives at home who carry on, the children who feel the absence of their father or mother at the dinner table and every school event, and the parents who worry and pray for safety.
Today, Friday, November 11, 2022, is Veterans Day. A day set aside to acknowledge the sacrifice and to say “Thank you.” Don’t let this week slip away without acknowledging the sacrifice. Call a friend or a loved one and say “Thank you”.
From everyone at Preferred Care at Home, we extend a deep and heartfelt “Thank you” to our veterans.
Thank you and God Bless America.
