Memories and Mother’s Day

My daughter’s preschool hosted a Muffins for Moms morning this week. My daughter was so excited to bring me to her school. The first thing she said when she woke up in the morning was, “Happy Muffin Day, Mama!”

Upon arriving at my daughter’s school I was showered with gifts. The first was a bouquet of flowers made out of pipe cleaners and painted coffee filters. I proudly pinned my coffee filter corsage on my shirt and sat down to share a blueberry muffin with my sweet girl who pointed out her favorite toys and gave me kisses. I also received a handprint card and a picture of us where my daughter stated her favorite thing to do with me was “play princesses”.  After a few moments my daughter was ready to go dance to Moana in the next room and I returned home with my homemade gifts.

I texted my husband a picture of me and my daughter, I’m holding the paper flowers and my daughter is holding up a muffin. I held back tears as I realized how soon my coffee filter gifts would come to an end and all I’ll have are these sweet memories.

I thought of my own mom and how she would go to the ends of the world for me, my siblings, and now her grandchildren. Her love for us knows no bounds. This Mother’s Day I’m far away from my mom. I’m sad that I don’t get to see her, give her a hug, and tell her how much I love her in person.

Will you get to see your mom this Mother’s Day? What are your Mother’s Day plans? Maybe you get to spend the day with your mom or your kids or maybe you only have memories of the past. Mother’s Day like so many holidays, can bring such a mix of emotions. This weekend, I hope you get some time with your mom, but if you don’t maybe you can spend some time with the memories.

To all the Mamas, Happy Mother’s Day!
