Carol and Chris Myers
We are Chris and Carol, owners of Preferred Care at Home of Findlay and Lima. As advocates for the elderly, it is our desire to come alongside you and your family as you navigate the maze of senior home care options. Asking for help is not easy, we understand, and want to be there for you, every step of the way. If you have questions about home care options, don’t hesitate to reach out at 419-603-HOME (4663).
We look forward to getting to know you more. In the meantime, here is a little about our stories and journey into senior home care:
Email MeCarol Myers
My name is Carol Myers, I am married to my husband Christopher since 2015, and a mother of two with
another little one on the way. I immigrated from Brazil in 2011, thinking I would spend one year in the
United States for an exchange program, which then became the place I call home.
My connection with senior homecare started back home, in Brazil, where homecare is not common (or it
was not a few years ago). Without the access to homecare, we took turns caring for my grandpa during
the last 6 months of his life. After a long battle against a prostate tumor and winning it, he fell and
fractured his femur while trying to get up from a little stool that he himself loved to build with scrap
wood. The doctors mentioned to our family that this was the “beginning of the end of his life”. After
watching his strength on fighting for his life before, we knew these doctors didn’t know who they were
talking about and were certain this would be just a small battle he would win. Well, unfortunately the
doctors were right, and my grandpa passed away 6 months after his fall.
Together with dementia, his condition deteriorated quickly as he slowly failed to comply with his
physiotherapy and refused to eat or speak. While we did our very best, our efforts were far from ideal, and
the intensity of his care did take a toll on all of us. Seeing a loved one slowly lose the characteristics you
admire about them makes grief even harder to deal with.
For my entire life I have worked for large corporations and lived in big towns, where we barely know the
name of our neighbors. The sense of unfulfilling and meaningless work grew on me, even though I had a
very established career. So, as an effort to raise our kids in a simpler lifestyle and work for something we
truly believed and filled our cups, Chris and I have moved back to my husband’s hometown of Findlay,
OH and are looking forward to fulfilling the senior homecare needs of this community.
My experience in Customer Services, Law, Accounting, Payroll, Tax and Human Resources is the perfect
combination to serve our caregivers and clients in the best way. Also, my personal experience and Latin
warmth will make your experience with our business unique and personal. We are looking forward to
getting to know and serve our community and make them part of our extended family.
Chris Myers
My name is Christopher Myers, and I grew up in Findlay, Ohio and the surrounding area.
After I graduated high school, I joined the United States Marine Corps, where I served for 5
years on active duty. During my time with the Marines, I worked on F/A-18 Hornet aircraft as an
aviation electronics technician and deployed 2 times. First, I went to Japan, Thailand, and
Australia as part of the Unit Deployment Program, and my second deployment was to Iraq as
part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While stateside, I was stationed in San Diego, California. After
leaving the service, I moved to south Florida, earned my bachelor’s degree in aviation business
and continued to work as an aviation electronics technician in general aviation. I have been
very fortunate to travel all over the world and the United States and have met and worked with
many people from all walks of life.
Transitioning into a business owner (outside of aviation) was not really on my radar, but
when an opportunity came to my wife and I, to begin a journey in senior home care, we both
knew it was a perfect fit for our lives. We wanted to get out of the hustle and bustle of south
Florida so we could raise our 3 children in a place where we could really get connected with a
community and make a positive impact on those around us. Northwest Ohio fits exactly what
we wanted and has given me the chance to reunite with my extended family in the area.
Being a Veteran, I have a lot of respect for the men and women who came before me
and made sacrifices to keep this country free. I have seen firsthand that asking for help is often
the hardest part in dealing with the problems we don’t want to face. They may not know where
or who to turn to, but in the military, we take care of our own! Seeing our loved ones aging and
needing help is often something we don’t want to face either, but you don’t have to do it alone.
Preferred Care at Home can be that resource you need to help care for your loved ones in their
time of need, while remaining in the comfort and security of their own home.
Maurice Myers
My name is Maurice Myers, I am married to my wife Chris, whom I met working as a
manager in a Wendy's franchise in 1981. We have three sons together: Dustin (1983),
Christopher (1984) and Benjamin (1985). I grew up in Toledo, Ohio, and graduated from St.
Francis de Sales High School and The University of Toledo.
I have devoted my career to the food service industry, where I successfully managed
multiple restaurants in the Findlay/Lima area. However, my biggest success came from raising
our boys with faith and integrity.
Our youngest son, Benjamin, was born with a medical condition who had the odds
turned against him. As a family, we refused to accept his diagnosis as a sentence, and treated
him as one of the other two children. With his brothers as role models, our family’s passion for
music and our constant prayers, today Ben is a fully functioning adult, a very talented drummer,
and he is valued at work for his good-hearted personality.
Having experience with the constant care of our son and assisting my elderly parents
(92 and 85 years old) to this day, has taught me the value of caring for others in need. I am very
excited to join Christopher and Carol in their journey as business owners and serving not only
the elderly, but anyone in need, in our community. Being a part of the boomer generation, I see
how many of us are retiring and having a need for assistance at home. As a very independent
generation, asking for help is not one of our strengths, and most of us would rather age at
home. Our independence and dignity are a part of who we are, and Preferred Care at Home will
work hard to safeguard that.
