MarQuietta & Mareio Lawson
MarQuietta realized that there was a need for home care services when Alabama’s seniors found themselves being hospitalized repeatedly. A knowledge deficit of their disease process played a role in this, but the fear of losing their independence and the thought of being a burden to their loved ones played a bigger role. Time is so precious and spending it with our seniors in the comfort of their own home, while receiving affordable, compassionate and reliable care is very special and rewarding. This is why MarQuietta and her husband Mareio took action.
Alabama residents and owners of Preferred Care at Home of South Alabama, MarQuietta and Mareio are a husband and wife team who have three beautiful daughters. Family is central to who they are and the care that they provide.
As owner and administrator, MarQuietta brings much experience to her role. She started her medical journey as a Certified Nurse Assistant. It all began with her love for helping people. This led her to becoming a Registered Nurse and working in the medical field for over 20 years. Throughout the years she has served as a Nursing Supervisor for Neurosurgery and Neurology, Medical-Surgical, Case Management, Internal Medicine, and Home Health experience. Her faith, passion, and commitment to helping people earned her the Daisy Award, which recognizes extraordinary nurses. This recognition is one of the most honorable and overwhelming moments in her nursing career and would not have been made possible without the support of her husband Mareio, her family and friends, and her faith and belief in God. Family, friends, and faith– it is what motivates and inspires her each and every day.
As a medical professional and the owner of Preferred Care at Home servicing Mobile, Baldwin, Monroe County and beyond, MarQuietta knows that asking for help is not easy and losing your independence may be your greatest fear. What is a Live-In or 24-Hour Home Care Service?
A live-in care variant is often referred to as 24-hour home care. It provides a unique, customized care solution to individuals who cannot be cared for independently but wish to remain in their own homes as much as possible. Unlike hourly care, where caregivers make scheduled visits for shorter times, live-in care services offer a live-in caregiver who spends long, extended periods in the client’s own home. Usually, those caregivers work in a very well-coordinated rotation that ensures constant and uninterrupted coverage of care, 24/7. This constant presence ensures that assistance is always readily available, day or night, lending unique peace of mind and security to both the person who requires care and their anxious relatives. A live-in caregiver is available at any hour, meaning that needs are addressed as they arise, be it assistance with nighttime hygiene, immediate attention to health concerns, or the simple comfort of knowing someone is in the home.
This level of immediacy fosters true safety, stability, and holistic wellness, frequently far beyond what is possible with less frequent care visits. Such 24-hour live-in at-home care is particularly important for people with complex medical conditions needing 24/7 medical attention, patients post advanced surgeries who want to recover in their own home, or anyone requiring constant monitoring 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to ensure their safety, mobility status, and independence in their own home. This is where the reliable hand of a live-in caregiver transforms the landscape of support and elevates levels of confidence and peace of mind.
What’s the Difference Between Hourly Home Care and Live-In Home Care?
Although the hourly and live-in home care services are both intended to provide critical support and companionship in the comfort of one’s home, there are considerable differences in how these types of home care services are structured and how much round-the-clock care is offered to suit different situations.
Home care is a few scheduled hours when a caregiver visits the client’s home. These visits may be several hours a day, one visit one time a week, or multiple visits in a week, and may provide some flexibility with assistance with reminders for medications and possibly cooking and assisting with bathing and dressing. This design is also usually suitable for those who do not need any constant oversight or overnight help, but need assistance with certain tasks and usually retain some level of autonomy. Since care services are available on an hourly basis, hourly care services give the flexibility of making and aligning care according to an individual or their family daily and including other support services that we can’t predict from the starting point, and they take less time and make the system without making any irrelevant things.
Even though care options necessitating departure from home, such as those from a senior living establishment, offer 24-hour care, live-in care offers 24-hour home care from a live-in caregiver in a client’s home, making it a more holistic and comprehensive solution to elder care. Although live-in caregivers are given scheduled breaks and required sleeping hours, they are still on call to address the client’s needs as they come up, day or night. This type of care is particularly useful for people experiencing situations that necessitate constant supervision, including those with complex medical conditions who require immediate attention or those who become highly anxious or disoriented when left alone.
The provision of a dedicated and available live-in 24-hour caregiver promotes a level of comfort and care that can help clients feel safe and connected on multiple levels. While the investment for live-in care services may seem higher than hiring a caregiver for a few hours a week, it’s a solution that is complete and wholly suited to those who need round-the-clock support, thus avoiding the cracks in care that can sometimes open when needing someone only hourly.
In the end, the distinction between hourly and live-in care depends on a reflective evaluation of the person’s requirements, the intricacy of their medical condition, and their desire for ongoing assistance as opposed to periodic help. While 24-hour home care needs are more intensive and will be there quickly, anytime when required, hourly care is easier to manage and more affordable in comparison to 24-hour care requirements.
