MarQuietta & Mareio Lawson
MarQuietta realized that there was a need for home care services when Alabama’s seniors found themselves being hospitalized repeatedly. A knowledge deficit of their disease process played a role in this, but the fear of losing their independence and the thought of being a burden to their loved ones played a bigger role. Time is so precious and spending it with our seniors in the comfort of their own home, while receiving affordable, compassionate and reliable care is very special and rewarding. This is why MarQuietta and her husband Mareio took action.
Alabama residents and owners of Preferred Care at Home of South Alabama, MarQuietta and Mareio are a husband and wife team who have three beautiful daughters. Family is central to who they are and the care that they provide.
As owner and administrator, MarQuietta brings much experience to her role. She started her medical journey as a Certified Nurse Assistant. It all began with her love for helping people. This led her to becoming a Registered Nurse and working in the medical field for over 20 years. Throughout the years she has served as a Nursing Supervisor for Neurosurgery and Neurology, Medical-Surgical, Case Management, Internal Medicine, and Home Health experience. Her faith, passion, and commitment to helping people earned her the Daisy Award, which recognizes extraordinary nurses. This recognition is one of the most honorable and overwhelming moments in her nursing career and would not have been made possible without the support of her husband Mareio, her family and friends, and her faith and belief in God. Family, friends, and faith– it is what motivates and inspires her each and every day.
As a medical professional and the owner of Preferred Care at Home servicing Mobile, Baldwin, Monroe County and beyond, MarQuietta knows that asking for help is not easy and losing your independence may be your greatest fear. Preferred Care at Home understands and is committed to coming alongside you and your family providing the care you need when and where you need it. We are dedicated and committed to your health and happiness. Our family, serving your family with compassion and excellence–that’s our promise to you.

Top-Rated Companion Care in Mobile, AL, and South Alabama
Do you or someone you love live in Mobile or South Alabama and desire connected and supportive contact? At our services, we understand that companionship strongly influences a person’s overall well-being. We know it is not only the activities of daily living that matter but the true human interaction that enables them to be more independent and live a fuller life, and so, again, our companion care services provide exactly that. We are a leading provider of companion care in Mobile, and we provide a higher level of personalized attention tailored to the individual needs of each client we serve. Whether that be engaging in stimulating conversation and favorite hobbies or just being a comforting presence, our caregivers are here to positively impact the lives of their clients throughout South Alabama.
Companion Care Services in Mobile, AL
Our companion care services in Mobile, AL, offer a full complement of companion care services to ensure professional assistance and the necessary companionship. We aim to allow people to remain independent and flourish in their environment with in-home support. We have trained professionals who can help with a range of different things, such as:
- Engaging Conversation and Social Interaction: Caregivers listen attentively, provide narratives, and discuss subjects that they show curiosity and excitement about with the care recipient. This may alleviate feelings of loneliness and boredom and help to forge a mental connection. For instance, a caregiver who knows that a client loves to reminisce can bring out the photo album and let the client talk about the past.
- Recreational Activities and Hobbies: You can simply do what you love to do. Our caregivers assist clients in being active in their favorite activities and hobbies, from games to books and puzzles to arts and crafts. They also might go with the clients on outings to events and may take people to parks or local cultural centers to help them integrate and feel normal.
- Light Housekeeping and Home Organization: We are not a cleaning service provider, but we assist our clients with light cleaning to make a safe and comfortable home. That might involve cleaning common areas, storing personal items, doing laundry, or preparing simple meals. Just that support is great for clients not to be in overwhelm and to be much more congruent in how they run their home.
- Meal Preparation and Planning: Nutrition is very important for our health, and in every field of life, we have to maintain it. We also know that a sick patient needs to recover health-wise, and this is very much dependent on diet; this is where our caregivers can help plan meals, go grocery shopping, and cook healthy home-cooked meals with the flavor and health that is most beneficial to the taste and dietary needs of the client. They can also eat with us, adding a fun element to mealtimes!
- Medication Reminders: Since caregivers can’t administer medication, they can remind clients when to take their medication as prescribed. This little bit of help can mean the difference between whether people stay on their medication regimens and other treatments that help them get healthy.
- Escort and Transportation: Spending time with loved ones and attending appointments are critical to health. Our caregivers are trained to drive and escort you to doctors’ appointments, social functions, errands, or other activities to help keep our clients healthy and connected to the community. If someone needs to get to and from a weekly book club meeting that he or she is looking forward to, a caregiver will be there.
- Respite Care for Family Caregivers: The service we provide to family caregivers in caring for their loved ones is hard work. Whether it is help with a long-term condition, injury, following a hospital stay, or even short-term care needs, we are here to care for you to return to optimum health. This is beneficial in combating caregiver burnout, with families’ ability to continue carrying out caregiving responsibilities over the long term as well.
We adapt to fit the individual’s changing needs with our versatile companion care services. We realize that needs change, and we will do whatever we can to provide changing support if needed.
What is Companion Care?
Companion care is a non-medical home care service that includes companionship, social interaction, and helping with personal daily living activities in the home. If you can wait for the 24-hour on-call skilled nursing care that requires medical procedures, then you need a companion caregiver who is going to match your social, emotional, and practical requirements if you find yourself isolated, lonely, or having trouble with some of your advanced daily living skills.
Companion care centers around the establishment of a personal connection between a caregiver and a client. Caregivers also act as companions who provide friendship and conversation and play games or do activities the client enjoys. One-on-one or group activity tailored to an individual’s interests can redeem a client’s quality of life, ward off isolation, and stimulate cognitive and/or emotional well-being.
In addition to being great providers of social interaction, companion care provides practical benefits, too, including light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders, and transportation to medical appointments or events. Assistance like this enables individuals to remain independent yet comfortable and secure within their homes. Companion care assists seniors, disabled individuals, and anyone who may need additional companionship and support so they can live a happier, healthier life. It’s in that space between needing a little help vs. some medical care; it’s about creating connectivity and a feeling of wellness.
