The drive into Boston from Sherborn keeps getting longer, and you wonder how your dad is managing the day alone in the house off Western Avenue. Meals get skipped, the doctor’s note about a fall doesn’t sink in until a neighbor calls, and the family group chat starts with three different opinions about what to do next. Preferred Care at Home of MetroWest brings personal care, companionship, homemaker help, dementia and Alzheimer’s support, respite, transition care, and live-in care to families in Sherborn from one local team.
Preferred Care at Home is the MetroWest Boston franchise of a family business founded in 1984. Our office is in Framingham, serving Sherborn and the towns around it. Caregivers hold CNA or HHA certifications, and Long Term Care Insurance is accepted.

Caregivers are matched by personality, not just availability. Bilingual English and Creole caregivers are available, and every caregiver clears our 7-step screening, including a background check. We are locally owned and operated, with customized plans that adjust as circumstances change and an online portal that lets family review visits and notes from anywhere. Our goal is helping older adults live independently at home for as long as possible.
We schedule visits around your workday from 1 hour to overnight, covering meals, errands, and transportation through Companion and Homemaker support.
Caregivers help with bathing, transfers, and mobility to prevent falls, and a live-in caregiver can stay overnight when the home isn’t safe alone.
We start care within days, with no income test and customized hours, so Personal, Companion, or Homemaker help arrives when you actually need it.
We explain what private-pay covers and where Medicare home health and hospice fit, before you commit to Personal, Companion, or Transition Care.
Transition Care covers reminders, rides, and recovery routines from day one; Personal Care continues if mobility stays limited.
We start with a few hours a week and scale up; early Companion or Homemaker support often delays the need for live-in or dementia care.
Step 01
You call and we listen. No script, just questions that fit your family’s situation and the specific needs you’re facing.
Step 02
A care manager visits to walk through the home and understand the daily routine, building customized plans around what we learn together.
Step 03
We pair your loved one with a caregiver by personality, language, and care needs. Background checked caregivers meet your family before regular visits begin.
Step 04
Visits begin within days, with family access to schedules, notes, and updates online so taking care of your loved one becomes a shared effort.
Celebrating life, dignity and independence.®
Since 1984, the founders of Preferred Care at Home have had the privilege of assisting clients in improving their quality of life while still recognizing and maintaining their dignity and independence. Preferred Care at Home has continued this tradition by only referring the most reliable, compassionate, experienced and affordable caregivers to client’s homes or care facilities.
We understand that long-term care can be costly, which is why we have focused on building a reputation of offering access to quality services at affordable prices.
Ask about the wide range of non-medical services available from 1 to 24 hours per day, and about qualified live-in caregivers who can provide 24-hour peace of mind for you or your loved one.
We Serve:
My sister and I grew up with a father who was born in Germany and a mother born in the US. We enjoyed an active childhood with family trips to the mountains in the winter to ski and visits to the beach in Maine with my mother’s parents in the summer. In my early teen years, we also made trips to visit my father’s parents living in Florida. Growing up and being engaged with both sets of grandparents was such a gift. I always had been interested in healthcare and later worked in the medical diagnostic field. The products I sold helped to diagnose different types of sicknesses and were the first step in getting a patient back to health.
As I grew older, I watched my grandparents’ health decline, forcing them to move from their homes into assisted living facilities. I remember visiting with my father and his mother in a Florida facility where she wasn’t properly cared for hygienically. I couldn’t believe it and thought, how could this be? This memory stayed with me and motivated me to want to care for those in a vulnerable position and to safeguard their dignity and independence in the comfort and security of their own home. This led to the creation of Preferred Care at Home of MetroWest Boston. We want each elderly individual and family member to rest assured in our promise to deliver exceptional care with compassion, respect, and to be by your side, every step of the way.
Yes, Preferred Care at Home serves Sherborn from our MetroWest Boston office in Framingham, with caregivers available throughout the area.
Sherborn is part of our primary service area. The office is locally owned by Brent Auslander, and caregivers cover Sherborn alongside Natick, Holliston, Dover, and the surrounding MetroWest towns. Call us to talk through what your family is facing, and we can start an assessment from there.
We provide personal care services, companion care, dementia and Alzheimer’s support, homemaker and respite care, transition care, live-in care, and end-of-life care.
Most Sherborn families start with one or two services and adjust as needs change. Personal care covers hands-on help with bathing, dressing, and mobility. Dementia care layers in routine consistency and safety supervision. Companion and homemaker shifts cover everything else day to day. Each service supports overall well-being and helps clients keep independent living at home.
Call us. We will have a short conversation, schedule an in-home assessment in Sherborn, and match a caregiver, often starting care within days.
The first phone call is a conversation, not a sales pitch. After that, we meet at the home to understand care needs and household routines, then select a caregiver matched by personality, language, and the specific care required. Non-urgent starts usually happen within 24 to 72 hours of the assessment. Our in-home care services begin with listening to what your family needs most.
Cost depends on hours per week and care type. Companion care starts lower than personal care, and live-in care has its own rate structure.
Pricing varies by the service type, the number of hours, and whether the schedule is daytime, overnight, or 24-hour. Preferred Care at Home accepts Long Term Care Insurance, which often covers a significant share of out-of-pocket cost for families that planned ahead. Call (508) 375-7174 for a specific quote based on your situation.
Care scales from one hour per visit to 24-hour live-in coverage. Many Sherborn families start with a few hours weekly.
Lighter needs often fit companion care or homemaker shifts of three to four hours, two or three days a week. When safety at night becomes a concern or a parent should not be alone for long stretches, families step up to live-in or extended overnight coverage. The plan can change as needs change.
Yes. Caregivers trained in dementia care work with families across Sherborn, providing routine consistency and behavior support at home.
Caregiver consistency is the operational priority for memory loss, so the same caregivers return shift after shift to keep face recognition and trust intact. Familiar surroundings, the home, the photos, the daily rhythm, do more for a person with dementia than any new setting can. Seniors with Alzheimer’s feel secure when routines stay predictable and faces stay familiar. This approach protects well-being while keeping your loved one in the place they know best.
