Franchise Blog, Important Franchise Inquiries
We, at Preferred Care at Home, know that making an investment in a franchise is no small endeavor. For many, it is the investment of a lifetime, with hopes and dreams of passing it along to future generations. For this reason, it is important that you conduct quality research on a corporation before you purchase a franchise from them. There are many questions you should ask, but let me take a moment to list and answer three important inquiries.
- Is there a prototype location that is the basis for the franchising operation?
- Are there methods of operation and management that are proven? Have they been incorporated into an operating manual?
- Is there a strong market for the products or services that the franchisor offers?

Since 1984, the founders of Preferred Care at Home have had the privilege of serving thousands of families across the country. Metro Denver owners, Rick Roedel, a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and, Tracy Hogan, a Licensed Professional Counselor have had personal experience caring for those in need and realize the benefits that home avails. This strong understanding, as advocates for the elderly, affirmed their commitment to make it possible for aging seniors to live independently.
Both Tracy and Rick are committed to Preferred Care at Home’s ultimate philosophy of caring for others in “Celebrating life, dignity and independence”. They realize, as quoted by Stephen R. Covey, “We are not human beings on a spiritual journey, but spiritual beings on a human journey”. Tracy and Rick believe that they are privileged to extend a helping hand to those in need and have the utmost desire to help others to find “joy” in their journey.

How are some ways a Preferred Care at Home franchise owner can separate themselves from the rest of the senior home care business world? This is a question that I am often asked by prospective franchise owners. To begin, I would like to start by discussing what I have seen now for over 25 years in this business.

Webster defines a mentor as a trusted counselor or guide. I believe true mentorship actually has several additional characteristics that are essential and necessary.
Mentorship requires direction from not just a teacher or counselor, but by an industry specific leader that has “been there and done that” successfully many times before.
In our company, each and every franchise owner gets that on-on-one attention directly from me. It is not filtered down through others or handed over to another less qualified individual. Preferred Care at Home has made a commitment from its inception that true mentorship would not only be a unique difference, but would also be a trademark for the success of the franchise owner. Looking back at our start, now over 25 years, not having a mentor to direct and instruct me in the homecare business was a painful and tremendous handicap. The price of making mistakes became nearly overwhelming. I often look back and think of how much better off I would have been had I had a mentor who was a specialist in the business of home care. Boy did I get banged up along the way!

Why Should I Become a part of the Preferred Care at Home Family of Franchise Owners
Part 3: Training Today, Training Tomorrow
As important as the initial training is to launching a new franchisee into the world of senior home care, the ongoing continual training and education is equally vital. The initial on-site training can be an overwhelming experience for many as there is so much to absorb. We understand, and view the formal training classes as a time to understand the heart of the matter. We are prepared to spend hundreds of hours building new franchise owners with industry specific information while guiding their understanding systematically.

Why Should I Become a part of the Preferred Care at Home Family of Franchise Owners
Part 2: A Strong Brand
The American Marketing Association (AMA) defines branding as, “name, term, sign, symbol or design, or a combination of them intended to identify the goods and services of one seller or group of sellers and to differentiate them from those of other sellers.” Preferred Care at Home, with over 50 combined years of experience, succeeds in branding because we understand the needs and wants of our clients. Our branding is about getting those needing that extra assistance to remain independent to see us as their best choice in a company that can provide them with peace of mind.

Why Should I Become a part of the Preferred Care at Home Family of Franchise Owners
Part 1: Experience
I am often asked, “Why should I purchase a Preferred Care at Home franchise over others?” As it is in any business, the integrity and expertise that separates that company from the rest starts at the top. For the past 25 years, (see Founders Story) I have personally developed successful home care businesses from the ground up in various locations of the country. This has taught me real life lessons on:
