Frequently Asked Questions

Where are your services available?

We have an ever-increasing number of locations throughout the United States. Please see our locations to find the Preferred Care at Home office nearest you.

Who can benefit from in-home care?

Anyone who needs assistance to function independently at home. Services can be as little as an hour a day or up to 24 hours, depending on your specific needs.

How much does service cost?

Our service fees vary from location to location. With our commitment to quality, affordable care, live-in rates are generally half of what many other organizations are charging for their services. Please contact the Preferred Care at Home office nearest you for an exact price quote.

Are your services covered by Medicare?

Medicare covers acute, intermittent, short-term skilled care, usually after a hospital stay. We come along side the Medicare benefits to deliver long-term, custodial care that is needed. In the absence of Medicare benefits, we can also provide the necessary assistance required for you or your loved one to remain at home.

Are your services covered by Medicaid?

Many of our locations are eligible to provide services under Medicaid benefits if the client qualifies for Medicaid. Please contact the Preferred Care at Home office nearest you for additional information.

Are your services covered by V.A. benefits?

If a client qualifies for V.A. benefits, (see ways to pay for Long Term Care), many of our home care locations will provide services under this benefit.

How else can I pay for Long Term Care?

We at Preferred Care at Home understand that asking for help is not easy and that care can be cost prohibitive for some.  To better understand payment options for our services, we have developed an overview on this topic.  Please visit our How to Pay for Long Term Care Guide.

How does in-home care cost compare to assisted-living or nursing homes?

With the average cost of facility care on the increase, many have found our services to be far more cost effective, providing peace of mind to family and friends, knowing that care is being rendered professionally at a place of choice.

Where can care be rendered?

Our services can be provided at hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, or home. It is your choice of where, and how services are provided.

How are your caregivers selected and screened?

We understand what the characteristics of a quality caregiver are. All caregivers are first and foremost compassionate individuals with a heart for seniors. In addition, every caregiver goes through a 7-point screening process, which includes criminal and abuse background investigations.

Do I have a choice in the caregiver selection process?

Before services are started, a home evaluation is performed. Information gathered here by the Care Coordinator is designed to assist the selection of the ideal caregiver to client match-up. A special face-to-face interview with the client and potential caregiver is always advised. If, for any reason, the initial caregiver does not meet your expectations, a simple call to the office is all that is needed to make a caregiver change. We strive for 100% client satisfaction.

How quickly can services begin?

Services can start as quickly as you need them. We are committed to providing a reliable, compassionate, and affordable caregiver on your time frame, according to your needs.

What if my caregiver is not able to make it to work?

Preferred Care at Home, in 25 years of service, has never left a client without service. Our 24 hour on-call personnel is stationed and ready to provide that emergency replacement should the need arise.
