We are Edward and Debbie Burns proudly serving Bucks and Montgomery County for Preferred Care at Home.
I wish we knew about Preferred Care at Home five years ago, when we could have used some assistance with a loved one. We have firsthand experience caring for Dad, who lived with us for 13 years. Our two children were privileged to have their Grand-pop around to tell stories and read books while we benefited from the experience and wisdom of an elder. It wasn’t until the last three years of his life that a heart attack and then terminal cancer caused him to need help. It was very important to us and to him to remain in the home where 40 years of memories lived so vibrantly in his heart. It also provided the security he wanted in the present and helped preserve the future for our children.
Caring for him was not only emotional, but it was very taxing on all of us. The tasks we take for granted like laundry, medications, hygiene, housekeeping, and scheduling time for doctor’s visits left very little time for us to handle our own life’s responsibilities or to provide companionship during his last years.
We are excited about our future with Preferred Care at Home. Our past experience and our desire to make a real difference puts us in a position to best serve our community in the following ways:
• We provide stability and reliability with a strong belief in family.
• Business experience in developing a quality team of loyal and compassionate caregivers.
• A strong passion to give back to our community.
• A significant ‘Life Event” with firsthand knowledge of just how important this work is.
• Dad would be proud.
Ed has owned and operated a business for 20 years with extensive experience in managing people to bring out the best in human potential. His accomplishments include being rated as Top Service Team in the Country. He feels that he can apply the same fundamentals of motivation to develop the strongest group of caregivers in Pennsylvania.
Debbie has been a teacher and community advocate for 15 years. Trained in Conflict Resolution, Mediation and Peaceful Parenting, she understands the dynamics of human relationships. Her experience has been enriched in raising her two children, now young adults, having cared for an aging loved one, and volunteering in the community. “Our greatest teachers in life are children and elders, yet they are often overlooked by society.”
In celebration of life, dignity and independence, we are partnering with the Arbor Foundation to honor our elders by planting trees in their name, creating a Living Legacy and at the same time preserving the future for our children and giving back to the environment.
